Improve Your Production Skills

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Centre for Online and Blended Learning has launched a free video channel dedicated to media productions for educational purposes. The online resources supplement the in-person workshops offered by COBL throughout the year.

COBL Production

Students quickly notice the difference between a video that is clear, engaging and well-designed – and one that is not. Poor sound, an unclear structure or confusing visuals can undermine your intentions of a good learning experience. A few small decisions, before pressing “record”, are often enough to make a big difference to the quality of a video.

COBL’s new video channel COBL EdMedia Production offers a variety of videos about educational media production, covering design, technical aspects and entry level introductions to how you can use different media formats.

Jonas and Christian

COBL's two media producers, Jonas Vilhelmsen and Christian Schmidt, demonstrate the interview format while talking about how it can be used in educational videos. The scene is from the video “Video as a Didactical Tool”.

Media producer Christian Schmidt, who is one of the content creators, shares his thoughts on the channel: “We meet very busy teachers all the time. Yet, they also show an interest in developing their production skills. They want to make the best videos for their students! This channel offers an on-demand solution to their needs. They can watch the videos when time allows and when it’s relevant for them.”

The channel just launched, but COBL’s ambition is to continuously publish new content to support the ongoing needs.

The channel can be accessed on www.oer.ku.dk . You need to search for “Channels” and then choose “COBL EdMedia Production”. Some resources are in Danish and some are in English.

NEW PRODUCTION WORKSHOP

The on-demand videos are also designed to complement in-person workshops offered by COBL – turning workshops into long-term learning rather than one-off events. Two of the content creators, Christian Schmidt and Gert Nielsen, are currently developing new videos to complement their new workshop on how to produce narrated videos with slides: Show and tell with PowerPoint video.

Gert Nielsen elaborates: “I have run several Powerpoint workshops in the last couple of years focusing on slide design and best practice. But in this new workshop I team up with my colleague who has expertise in production. We hope that our combined skillsets can help teachers make even better narrated Powerpoint videos”.

Since Microsoft integrated the recording function directly in Powerpoint, COBL has seen an increased interest in learning more about the full process: from slide design to recording presentations.

If you need help producing videos, podcasts, graphics or other digital media formats, then COBL still offers a wide range of range of services. You can always contact us to hear more about how we can assist you.
