A new declaration makes it easier to manage generative AI in exams
How should students declare their use of generative AI in exams? Many teaching staff have been grappling with that question over the past year, and now there is a concrete tool to make the use of generative AI in exams and coursework more transparent.

At the University of Copenhagen we have just launched a declaration template for the use of generative AI in exams. It may be used whenever generative AI is permitted in relation to assignment submissions. The completed form serves as a resource for teaching staff and supervisors to ensure transparency and a shared terminology around the use of generative AI. The respective study boards decide whether the form is mandatory for the students to complete.
The declaration was introduced this spring, and we encourage all teaching staff to take a look at the template, especially if generative AI is allowed in your exams, including bachelor’s and master’s theses, where most students in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences are permitted to use generative AI.
You may also direct your students to these guidelines on referencing sources when using generative AI in written assignments.
929 academic staff at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences have already received training in AI skills
Are you one of the 929 staff who have received training in generative AI and thus comply with the new Danish AI Act?
The new Danish AI Act also requires that all public sector employees be equipped to use generative AI in a responsible manner. At the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences important steps have already been taken in this direction.
Since spring 2024, 929 teaching staff have taken part in workshops and presentations on using generative AI in teaching, which have been organised by COBL. Together with the teaching staff we have explored both opportunities and challenges and developed practical tools, with the aim of supporting a scholarly and reflective use of generative AI when working with students.
Would you like to know more or use the declaration in your teaching?
You can find the declaration and guidance on its use on KUnet.
If you have questions about the declaration or wish to book a workshop on generative AI in teaching, please contact COBL.
