Generative AI (ChatGPT) in the supervision of students at SUND

AI in supervision

Several study programmes at SUND have opened up for the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT in Bachelor or Master thesis projects – provided that the students describe what they did and cite correctly. However, what does this mean? What do you need to know as supervisor, what should you discuss with your students, and where can you get help? Does the tool even hold potential to make your life as supervisor easier?

At the workshop, we aim to help you getting a grip on what to discuss with your students to support their digital reflection and to teach good academic practice in a supervision context.

The workshop is co-developed by the University Library (KUB Nord) and COBL. It will consist of a combination of short presentations, group discussions, and hands-on activities.

The workshop focuses on the essentials for teaching good academic practice in student projects in the age of AI:

  • How to use LLMs in relation to information seeking and reference management
  • How to evaluate information provided by LLMs like ChatGPT
  • How to cite LLMs
  • Students' prerequisites for using ChatGPT in a qualified manner
  • Copyright, data and ethics related to LLMs

Who can participate?

This workshop is for SUND educators who would like to learn more about AI in the context of student supervision (e.g., bachelor and master thesis reports).
